Why Psychology Doctorate?

Goals of the Psychology Doctoral Program

The St. Clements University psychology PhD program follows a paradigm of integrating theory, research, and practice in the area of psychology, with the goal of preparing participants to be effective researchers on national and worldwide academic platforms in psychology. For this reason, theoretical infrastructure is established in the fundamental areas of psychology throughout four terms, and during the two-year thesis phase, this theoretical infrastructure is put into practice in the doctorate thesis that the student will write in the topic in which he or she wishes to specialize. When applying for a faculty post at a university, candidates may specify their area of concentration as the discipline in which they write their thesis, even if the program name is Psychology Doctorate.

What are the qualifications for graduates of the Psychology Doctorate Program?

-To be knowledgeable in the five fundamental areas of psychology: developmental psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, and cognitive psychology. In particular, to understand a person's mental, emotional, and social development, how social institutions and rules influence the human mind and behavior, the mental and emotional mechanisms that cause pathological behaviors, the principles that determine satisfaction, performance, productivity, motivation, and so on in the workplace, and the principles that govern the functioning of the human mind.

-To prepare a doctorate thesis by defining a research issue in a subject of his/her choosing using this theoretical knowledge, therefore becoming an expert in that field, and to learn how to manage a master's and doctoral thesis.

-To become an independent researcher by completing a thesis in the subject of psychology of his/her choice under the supervision of his/her adviser, and/or to put it into practice by working in the field of his/her chosen specialty.

-To operate in conformity with ethical ideals.

-To be able to work closely with others and conduct collaborative research.

What courses are offered in the Psychology Doctorate Program?

The Psychology Doctorate program at St. Clements University focuses on the five core disciplines of psychology: developmental psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, and cognitive psychology. In addition to these foundational courses, the Scientific Research Methods course, which is required for all graduates to become independent researchers, and the Statistics course are offered at a higher level. The basis provided by these courses will allow students to produce a thesis in their chosen topic, become experts in that field, and work either at the institution or in the field. In addition, in tandem with their PhD studies, our students may perform research projects alone or in groups under the supervision of their advisers.

What are the career paths for Psychology Doctoral Program graduates?

A psychologist who completes their PhD degree and gets the title of 'Doctor of Science' works mostly in a university setting. They will be able to effectively assess the accumulation of a lengthy and difficult educational period by teaching and doing research in their area of competence. However, this remark in no way diminishes the significance and appeal of working outside of the institution. A doctoral-educated psychologist, on the other hand, will be much more successful in the corporate sector, all levels of education, nurseries, public opinion research firms, hospitals, and jails and detention centers.

The General Psychology PhD program specializes on Social, Cognitive, and Developmental Psychology, and its major goal is to offer academics with high-quality education and research in the discipline. However, doctoral-level psychologists may operate in a variety of public and commercial sectors, as well as academia.

Psychology is divided into several subfields, including social psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, experimental psychology, psychometrics, applied psychology, forensic psychology, educational psychology, health psychology, sports psychology, traffic psychology, positive psychology, political psychology, and religious psychology.
